Blinding speed, dazzling foot work and the ability to do things on a rugby field others could only dream of. IRB World Player of the Year Shane Williams is hoping to take his magic from the field of play, and unleash it on the business world. Move over Alan Sugar, there’s a new business man in town. Style Wales finds out how everything Shane Williams touches, turns to gold.
How do you find running a business as well as being a professional rugby player?
It is quite difficult to run the business as rugby is demanding mentally and physically. I wanted to get involved with this business venture as I feel that we had the right ingredients to become a success. We’ve gone from strength to strength, sometimes it’s been hard to keep up but I’m really enjoying it, and do as much as I can as often as I can.
Do you run the business on your own?
I’d like to say I did but I’m not that efficient. Andrew Lacey and Simon Griffiths are my business partners. They deal with the day to day running of the business like bookings and general management.
Do you see yourself as a budding entrepreneur in the future?
I hope to be playing professional rugby for a while yet, but it’s good to be a part of something that is enjoyable and successful off the field, as well as taking care of business on the pitch.
And finally.... your predictions for the Six Nations?
I don’t see why we can’t win the tournament. Obviously another grand slam would be a nice bonus! I can’t wait to be involved, work hard with the boys and hopefully continue the success. We all do.
